The Image Of Sui And Tang Emperors In The Novels Of Tang And Five Dynasties

In the Tang and Five Dynasties,great changes have taken place in the development of novels about emperors,which are manifested in the weakening of religious color and the importance of practical significance.The story of Emperor Wu’s eternal life,which prevailed in the Han,Wei and Six Dynasties,is no longer favored by the people of the Tang and Five Dynasties.Novelists are keen on writing the real stories of the emperors of the Sui and Tang Dynasties,especially the stories of emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty,Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty and Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty.This change is not only related to the enlightened political atmosphere of Tang Dynasty and the novel concept of Tang and Five Dynasties,but also related to the complicated emotions of Tang and Five Dynasties novelists themselves,which is the unique feature of this kind of novels.The introduction part mainly combs the research status of the novels about emperors in Tang and Five Dynasties,and expounds the significance and research methods of this paper.The first chapter,mainly based on the novel text,with reference to the image of emperors in Historical Biographies,summarizes the overall image of Sui Yang emperor,Tang Taizong and Tang Xuanzong in the novel.For the same emperor,the images created in different novels are quite different,which is closely related to the emotional choice of novelists.This chapter analyzes and summarizes the image of the emperor in the novels of the Tang and Five Dynasties,and at the same time pays attention to the influence of the personal emotional factors of the novelists of the Tang and Five Dynasties on the image of the emperor in the novels.The second chapter mainly analyzes the creation motivation of the novel.The change of writing motivation is an important reason for the great difference between the novels about emperors in Tang and Five Dynasties and those about Han,Wei and six dynasties.This chapter is mainly based on the novel text,combined with the novel concept of the Tang Dynasty and the history of the Tang Dynasty,summarizes the creation motivation of the novels about the emperors in the Tang Dynasty into three main points,namely,the concept of supplementing history in novels and the political reflection of the literati,the curiosity of the emperor’s private life,the emotion of the rise and fall of history and the discussion of fate.The third chapter mainly analyzes the ideological connotation of the novel.It is mainly manifested in the discussion of the view of history and the moral and ethical thought in the novel.The view of history in the novel mainly expresses the view of destiny and the view of emperor;in the aspect of ethics,it mainly expresses the criticism of emperor’s indulgence and the expression under the influence of "Ming emperor complex".The fourth chapter mainly analyzes the inheritance and development of the novels about emperors in the Tang Dynasty,and the influence on the novels about emperors in the later generations.It mainly shows that it provides the story prototype and novel material for the later generations,and affects the expression of the novel attitude in the emotion.
