The text selected for this translation practice," The Mixed cultivation of beautiful succulent plants",is a book that introduces a total of 22 succulent plant mixes made by the author in collaboration with popular bonsai artists.This book is practical,lively and easy to understand language.This practice report takes the translation practice of some chapters in " The Mixed cultivation of beautiful succulent plants" as the research content,and the translation text is about 11,000 words.The translated text covers common succulent plants and introduces in detail how to grow succulent plants,including the selection of planting tools and the order of planting.The text is a plant-growing tool,and the book covers many plant-related terminology.In terms of expression,the text is functional,aiming to attract readers’ enthusiasm for succulent planting,and the language style is easy and lively.In addition,there are a lot of title sentences in the text.Based on the above text characteristics,the author chose functionalist purposive theory as the guiding principle for this practice report.In this translation practice report,the author analyzes three aspects: translation of vocabulary,translation of titles,and translation of sentences.In the translation of vocabulary,the author completed the translation of succulent plant names,plant family names and exonyms in them by using professional books and domestic and foreign authoritative internet resources.In the translation of titles and sentences,in order to make the translation as close as possible to the content of the original text and to achieve the expression effect that the translation is fluent,easy to understand,and easy to be accepted by readers,various translation techniques such as co-translation,sub-translation,and conversion are adopted with the purpose theory as the guide.In addition,how to solve the problem that some succulent plants do not have current Chinese names,how to search for abbreviated exonyms and how to beautify the title sentence are the key points and difficulties of this translation practice.Through this translation practice,I initially improved my ability to apply translation theory to solve translation practice problems.The author summarized the methods and techniques used in this translation practice as well as the problems encountered in the translation process,accumulated experience in translating planting texts,and improved her translation level to a certain extent.I also hope that this translation practice can provide some reference for the future translation research of plant cultivation texts.
