As a kind of traditional Chinese painting,academy style painting has developed for more than three hundred years since the establishment of the academy in the Five Dynasties to the end of the Song Dynasty.However,in the Northern Song Dynasty,it had been at a higher level.Compared with the previous dynasties,both the content and the subject matter and the art form had a new look and a higher level.Especially,the development of the painting academy reached a historical peak at this time.Viewing from the whole history of Chinese painting,the development of the academy style painting in the Northern Song Dynasty is closely related to the changes of social structure,politics,economy and culture.At this time,the growth of the civilian class and the stability and prosperity of the social environment made art and culture gradually enter the life of the people,and art works became the spiritual consumer goods that everyone could pursue.Then the change of people’s aesthetic ideas,the concept of value,as well as the traditional artistic thought has brought the huge impact,not only dissolve in the depth of the upper elite culture,also widened the breadth of its artistic radiation,broke the boundary of the noble culture and civilian culture,to serve the palace noble imperial court decorative painting color with unprecedented civilians.The original painting of the Buddhist and Taoist immortals and royal nobles turned to the description of nature and wild interests and then to the description of social people’s livelihood,presenting an independent state of self-consciousness.It is precisely because of the change of its painting content that the academy painting had the characteristics of the common people in the Northern Song Dynasty.
