Strategic Research On The Japanese Version Of Idioms With Cultural Characteristics In The Translation Of Classics Based On Corpus

The culture-specific words contain abundant cultural connotation while in the course of translation,there are numerous difficulties and problems resulting from lexical uniquity,complexity and timeliness.Therefore,these culture-specific words also represent certain times.Accuracy of their translation is closely concerned with the actual translation quality.So it’s a topic worth more researches on how to adopt proper translation strategies to fulfill culture-specific words’ translation.Previous researches related to culture-specific words have gradually become the hotspot in the field of translation.Skopos Theory breaks through the constraints of equivalence theory and can make a more reasonable evaluation of the translation of culturally characteristic words.This article selects the Japanese translation of "The Analects" as the research object,and discusses the Japanese translation of culturally characteristic words from the perspective of teleology.Taking as the research objects The Analects of Confucius’ s culture-specific words in the Japanese version,this passage focuses on the translation of culture-specific words from the principle combined with quantitative statistics and qualitative analysis.Based on Nida’s classification of cultural factors,culture-specific words are divided into five categories: ecological culture-specific words,material culture-specific words,social culture-specific words,religious culture-specific words and lingual culture-specific words.Besides,it makes a systematic selection and summary of these five kinds from original works.Then use the corpus to retrieve the original text and corresponding translation of cultural-specific words.Count the translation methods used by translators and analyze the three principles of Skopos Theory,and discuss the translation strategies and methods of culturally characteristic words in classics.Through researches,we come to the following conclusions.First,translators combine two methods of domestication and foreignization rather than one single translation strategy,domestication is in a majority.Second,there are common characteristics in the translation methods used in these versions.Literal translation,free translation and amplification are frequently used in the three versions.Third,in terms of translation methods,transplantation,literal translation and borrowing translation are integrated in the translation method of foreignization while domestication employs free translation,adaptation,explanation,omission,amplification and interpretation among which explanation also combines with literal translation,transplantation and free translation.Fourth,the choice of translation method represents its diverse feature in these different translation versions.In specific contexts,translators have a subjective initiative to choose translation strategies and methods.
