Communication is a kind of social interaction through which people maintain themutual influence of the interaction relationships. It is omnipresent all the time inpeople’s lives. Communication means the transference of social information or theoperation of social information systems to achieve its ultimate purpose ofdissemination through a series of symbols. Translation is also reached by transformingthe language signs to achieve information sharing between the source language andthe target language. Therefore, the translation is also a special kind of communication. The key of communication is message, and the carrier of message is symbol. Ascarrier of symbol, languages have become the most commonly used communicationsymbols. As a comprehensive expression of Chinese literature, The Analects ofConfucius has its brief text, refining primitive words deep in meaning that makes it abearer of Chinese culture and language. The book gives a comprehensive andprofound introduction to the ancient Chinese economy, politics, culture, art and evenways of dealing with affairs, leaving for future generations a valuable spiritual wealth, and its translation history is a history of the communication with bright colors. In the course of international communication,“Li” is a very complexculture-loaded concept, as on of the main communicative thought of The Analects ofConfucius, it has essential concept, but it also enjoys different interpretations atdifferent times which poses a major problem in its expressive translation of “Li” incommunication process. Therefore, the author of this thesis observes in different timeshow the translators convey the focus of the original text from the translated versionsThe Analects of Confucius, focusing on the description of the communicator who asboth communicator and receiver, thereby allowing readers to understand roles playedby various aspects in the communication process, to explore the problems of “Li”encountered in the communication process and its solutions in order to better promotethe cultural exchange between the West and China, with particular purpose to reducethe misreading and misinterpretation of classical Chinese culture of the westernpeople in the communication process. This thesis conducts research from the communication perspective of thetranslation process. It starts from the five elements of the communication process andthe external environmental factors to explain the factors that influence the communication effect of classical literature, thus it provides a new perspective toresearch of classical literature translation and communication. At the same time, itsummarizes the new interpretation of “Li” in the Analects of Confucius in new times, and proposes translation strategies of culture-loaded words translation, which betterpromote cultural exchanges between China and the West, bringing traditional Chineseculture to the world.
