The "fifth generation of critics" is a literary group throughout the 1980s,deeply involved in the literary trends of the 1980s,and its influence and significance on the history of literature and criticism should not be underestimated. The criticism activities of the fifth generation of critics are closely related to the literary conferences in the 1980s,and their naming was completed through the Hainan Conference in 1986.However,this term was rarely mentioned after the Hainan Conference, and the intergenerational naming method it advertised could not be continued. The disappearance of the name does not mean the disappearance of the group. The critics who were called the "fifth generation" have returned to the stage of literary criticism in the new century after experiencing more than ten years of ups and downs, and are still standing at the forefront of criticism. The occurrence of such a literary phenomenon spanning the centuries benefited from the hard work of these scholars with strong academic vitality in the field of literary criticism. The current academic research on the fifh generation of critics mostly focuses on the relationship between the critic group and a single historical event, but lacks exploration of the relationship between the critic group and multiple historical events, and focuses on the fifth generation of criticism.Articles showing individual criticism practices are even rarer.Under the concept of literary field, every critical activity of critics, including review articles, academic activities, journal management, and compilation of anthologies, will be affected by the literary field from its occurrence to progress to its end. This article traces the origins of several key literary activities in the 1980s,in order to sort out the temporal and spatial context of the fifth generation of critics participating in literary trends,so as to reveal the close relationship between literary events in the 1980s and reshape the fifth generation of criticism. The value of home in academic history. The thesis is divided into the following parts:The introduction sorts out the relevant research on the fifth generation of critics and the literary trend of thought in the 1980s in recent years, and initially establishes the holistic view and field concept required for the research of the thesis. The first chapter focuses on the historical scene of the Hainan Conference and reveals the "presupposition" of the fifth generation of critics in the process of naming through historical data research. The growth of the fifth generation of critics in the 1980s was inseparable from the construction of the context of critical subjectivity,as well as the advocacy and promotion of them by journal series and academic conferences. In addition, this chapter also draws on the Hainan Conference Proceedings "My View on Criticism",using the method of literature review to summarize the commonalities and differences in the ideas of individual criticism of the fifth generation of critics.Chapter Two focuses on sorting out some literary events with academic value and historical significance of criticism.Based on this,it summarizes a set of characteristics of the fifth generation of critics participating in the literary trend of thought in the 1980s,namely,echoing,boosting,linkage,and mutual assistance. In the history of contemporary literature,1985 was not only a "new wave year" for novels, but also a "methodological year" for criticism. It is no exaggeration to call it a watershed in the literary trend of thought in the 1980s.Before the "Eighth Five-Year New Wave",critics were still in a bewildered wait-and-see and tentative response.By 1985,they were boldly boosted and frequently linked;in the years after the "Eighth Five-Year New Wave",novel creation and Criticisms are "going downhill." Critics gradually became disappointed with some phenomena and began to support each other. It is the interaction between critics and literary activities that promotes the progress and evolution of literary thoughts. The third chapter explores the internal and external reasons for the disappearance of the fifth generation of critics, and roughly draws the conclusion that the fifth generation of critics did not actually disappear, but turned to academic criticism. In addition, this chapter also reflects on the pros and cons of intergenerational naming based on the "disguised" intergenerational continuation of literary criticism in the new century.
