Chinese is an increasingly important language in the world and an increasing number of educational institutions impart it.Among them,Confucius Institute is the main institution for teaching and dissemination of Chinese language and culture globally.including in Latin America.Particularly in Chile,two Confucius Institutes have been established:Confucius Institute of Santo Tomas University and Confucius Institute of Catholic University of Chile.In accordance with the purpose of "recognizing the cultural identity of Latin America"formulated by the Regional Center of Confucius Institutes for Latin America(CRICAL),the action of evaluating the effectiveness of the program offered by Confucius Institute in Chile is considered relevant.In this sense,it will be possible to determine which aspects of the Confucius Institute program are effective in Chile and which aspects should be improved,seeking to initiate a process of development and adaptation of Confucius Institute to the local context.The purpose of this study is to identify the students’ perception of the Chinese language and culture diffusion program of Confucius Institute of Catholic University of Chile.This action will be carried out through the implementation of an adapted version of the SEEQ(Students ’Evaluation of Educational Quality)questionnaire,a standardized and internationally validated instrument that measures the teaching efficiency in higher education.The study is divided into five chapters:The first chapter introduces the context and purpose of the study;Later,academic literature review on the origin,development,and implementation of the SEEQ questionnaire is presented,and academic literature review on the evaluation of the Confucius Institute at the global,Latin American,and Chilean contexts is also presented.Subsequently,the content and methodology of this research are outlined;the origin,development and current situation of the Confucius Institute of Catholic University of Chile is described;and finally,the value and significance of the study is explained.The second chapter presents the design of the study,in which the characteristics of the instrument implemented,and the profile of the students surveyed are detailed.The third chapter presents a description and statistical analysis of the results obtained from the SEEQ questionnaire in a group of students from Confucius Institute of Catholic University of Chile.It also presents the relationship between respondents’ individual differences and their evaluation of the Confucius Institute program,and the relationship between respondents’ achievements in Chinese courses and their evaluation of the Confucius Institute program.The fourth chapter describes the main conclusions of the study,and details a series of recommendations to create a future development plan for Confucius Institute of Catholic University of Chile,which aims to adapt to the local reality of Chile.The fifth chapter describes the innovations and limitations of the study. |
