The 2011 version of compulsory education curriculum standard is proposed to develop students’ listening,speaking,reading and writing abilities,while The New English Curriculum Standard(2017)is proposed to cultivate students’ abilities in five aspects: listening,speaking,reading,viewing and writing,which shows that English reading ability and writing ability are always two aspects that can’t be ignored,and these two aspects are crucial to the cultivation of students’ comprehensive ability.The teaching mode of integrating summary writing into English reading in senior high school just meets the requirements of the curriculum standard.It integrates the writing part with the reading,which integrates the input of reading and the output of writing well so as to improve the reading and writing abilities of all students.As a teaching method,the mode of integrating summary writing into reading aims to explore its influence on students’ reading ability and writing ability.On the one hand,the ultimate goal is to improve students’ reading and writing levels.On the other hand,it aims to improve students’ reading and writing scores,so as to reduce teachers’ teaching burden.In addition,this research aims to cultivate students’ abilities to refine the topic sentences and improve their reading literacy through the integration of summary writing and reading,and tries to answer the following questions:1.What is the influence of integrating summary writing into senior high school English reading teaching on students’ reading comprehension ability?2.What is the influence of integrating summary writing into senior high school English reading teaching on students’ writing ability?In order to answer these questions,this research adopts the experimental method,and there are eighty students totally in this experiment.All the subjects are coming from Quwo No.2 middle school.Besides,the two classes are chosen to this research,one class as the experimental class and the other is the controlled class.The mode of integrating summary writing into reading is only carried out in the experimental class,and the effectiveness of the mode is obtained by comparing the reading and writing scores of the students in the two classes.In addition,students’ compositions show that the students in the experimental class have changed their writing methods after receiving the training of summary writing.Before the experiment,the students of two classes are tested in reading and writing and they are required to complete the questions within a limited time.The pretest shows that the two classes selected in the experiment are parallel classes,so there is no significant difference between the reading and writing levels of students in the two classes.After the experiment,80 students are tested again.The number,difficulty and time limit of the test are the same as the pretest.Through the comparison and analysis of the post-test results,it can be determined that there is a significant difference between the reading and writing levels of the two classes after the experiment,which can prove the effectiveness of this mode.After the experiment,the results show that the teaching mode of integrating summary writing into reading can improve students’ reading and writing abilities,and it can combine the input of English reading with the output of writing effectively.The reasons for this result are as follows: first,the mode can test students’ overall understanding of reading articles,rather than fragmented understanding;second,students can summarize the articles in their own language,which can exercise readers’ abilities to sort out and process the information obtained.Therefore,in order to promote the reading and writing abilities of senior high school students and improve their English scores,we can try to integrate writing practice into reading teaching.By changing the traditional teaching method of separation of reading and writing,summary writing can be introduced to students.Besides,we can provide students with learning strategies such as self generalization,so as to improve their abilities of reading and writing.
