Painting Techniques Of The Landscape Paintings By Lan Ying

Lan Ying was a professional painter in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties.He dabbled in a wide range,especially in landscape painting,and was widely affirmed by later generations.Born in Hangzhou,Lan Ying was first influenced by the Southern Song imperial-court decorative painting and the style of Zhejiang school.At the same time,due to the popularity of Songjiang school and Wumen school,Lan Ying’s painting style began to change towards literati painting,and its painting techniques also initiated to change accordingly,A unique personal image was finally formed.This thesis takes the painting technique characteristics of Lan Ying as a research object,and traces the mentoring relationship and his works by stages by means of literature collation,image analysis and comparative study,so as to make the formation of Lan’s painting techniques clearer and more definite.First of all,Chapter 1 summarizes the life of Lan Ying,his mentoring relationship and also his landscape painting.The achievements and typical styles of Lan Ying’s landscape painting are also expounded.Chapter 2 analyzes the particularity of his landscape painting techniques from three aspects:connotation of the techniques,main characteristics of the techniques and role of the techniques in the formation of Lan’s painting style.In Chapter 3,Lan Ying’s painting career is divided into three stages:the early stage,the middle stage and the late stage.The evolution of his techniques is clarified with examples.Chapter 4 summarizes the influence of Lan’s techniques and lists its inheritance among Wulin School of Painting and other painters.
