BianBaimei And The Bank Of China In Tianjin(1919-1942)

Bian Baimei,named Shousun,courtesy name Baimei,ancestral home in Yizheng,Jiangsu,was one of the important bankers in the financial history of Tianjin in modern times.With his outstanding achievements in the Bank of China for many years,he and Song Hanzhang,the founder of the Bank of China and the general manager of the Shanghai Branch,had the reputation of "Southern Song and Northern Benson".In 1918,Bian Baimei served as the deputy manager of Tianjin Branch,then promoted to the manager and concurrently served as the general manager of the second regional bank.For a long time,she served as the chairman and chairman of the Association of Banks in Tianjin,as well as the member,standing member and executive member of the Tianjin Chamber of Commerce.In 1938,he left Tianjin for Hong Kong and directed the affairs in Tianjin until the outbreak of the Pacific War.Bian Baimei presided over the Bank of China Tianjin Branch for 20 years,and made important contributions to the development of modern financial cause in Tianjin.Throughout his life,the operation of the banking business can be divided into three periods.The first period is the promotion to the governor of the Bank of China in Tianjin in 1919,until the reorganization of the Bank of China in 1928.During the Northern Yang period,the political situation was in turmoil.Bian Baimei dealt with politicians and warlords to protect the interests and reputation of the Bank of China,and led the development of the branch in the midst of turmoil.The second period of 1928 to 1937 at this stage the bank of China after the reorganization,the business policy has changed,BianBai eyebrow adhering to the "interpretation of social service is,and not forget new lines of business approach"①objective management branch;The third period was from 1937 to 1942 when the Bank of China in Tianjin was forcibly taken over by the Japanese imperialists.At this stage,the Bank of China in Tianjin was forced to shrink various businesses,to maintain the legal tender status,but also to resist the Japanese puppet damage to finance.During this period,Bian Baimei’s operation and management of the Bank of China in Tianjin fully demonstrated his high social responsibility and enthusiastic patriotic feelings in the face of war and national disaster.This paper is divided into four parts.The first part is Bian Baimei’s first entry into the Bank of China,which summarizes the development of China’s modern banking industry and bankers in turn,as well as Bian’s early life and experience of studying abroad as a member of the group,and he joined the Bank of China after he returned to China after he finished his studies and started his lifelong career.The second part is about Bian Baimei’s operation and management of Jinhong from 1919 to 1937.This paper summarizes the business development of Tianjin bank during this period,as well as Bian Baimei’s prevention and management of the crisis,and finally discusses the concrete examples of Bian Baimei’s active assumption of social responsibility,active participation in the management of Tianjin public affairs and maintaining the financial stability of Tianjin.The third part is mainly about Bian Baimei and Jin Xing in the period of the occupation.During this period,Bian Bai Mei in the difficulties to carry out the business,and instructed the Jin line and the Japanese puppet in the financial field of struggle,reflects a Chinese people in the national crisis moment of patriotic feelings.The fourth part mainly studies Bian Baimei’s management thought.Bian Baimei’s management thought has many originality,he advocates the idea of "serving the society",pursues the stable and flexible management policy,sticks to the credit,pays attention to the training and management of staff,which shows that this is also the successful way of his career.
