Research On The Tianjin Branch Of The Bank Of Communications(1912-1928)

Founded in 1908,the Bank of Communications is one of the few national commercial banks in modern China,and also one of the oldest banks in China.Tianjin Branch of Bank of Communications(hereinafter referred to as Tianjin Branch)is one of the important branches under the Bank of Communications system.Founded on April 12,1908,it is the jurisdiction of the Bank of Communications in Tianjin and the first branch of the Bank.Since its opening,Tianjin has gradually become a financial center in northern China under the dual influence of the development of foreign trade and the political environment.Although the Bank of Communications Tianjin Branch is not the leader in Tianjin banking industry,it occupies an important position in the development of Tianjin financial industry.Through analyzing and commenting on the Tianjin Branch from 1912 to 1928,this paper reveals the historical process of the development and change of Tianjin Branch,which is helpful to enrich the modern banking history.Founded in the late Qing Dynasty,Bank of Communications was tasked with the redemption of the Beijing-Han Railway.The Tianjin branch is located in Tianjin,which has unique geographical advantages: rapid development of foreign trade and significant dependence on Beijing.Moreover,the financial policy of the government was relatively free at that time,so the Tianjin Branch was the earliest and developed the best among the branches of the Bank of Communications in this period.By the time of the Beijing government,the business of Tianjin Branch was fully carried out,which was largely due to the close relationship between the Bank of Communications and the government,so the bank of Tianjin developed rapidly in the aspects of securities issuance,exchange business and bond issuance agency.However,with the strengthening of the government’s control over the financial market,Tianjin Branch was restrained in all aspects.However,Tianjin Branch will develop positively through its own changes.Therefore,the characteristics of Tianjin Branch in this period are as follows: on the one hand,Tianjin Branch,as a branch of Bank of Communications,has to obey the command;On the other hand,Tianjin Branch will serve as an experimental field in business development and provide suggestions for the development of the head office.This paper mainly discusses the Tianjin Branch of Bank of Communications from several aspects,including its founding background,organizational structure and personnel changes,business operation,and coping with financial trends.It hopes to provide reference for the survival and development of major bank branches in the increasingly fierce competition society by analyzing the case of Tianjin Branch of Bank of Communications.
