A Practice Report On The Translation Of Commission Delegated Regulation(EU)2019/628(Excerpts)

Food,as an important part of human’s life is closely related to human health and life.The outbreak of COVID-19 in Wuhan,China,in late 2019 has plunged the whole world into reflections on food safety.In this sense,we human beings are in desperate need of a complete and reliable animal-derived food safety system that can protect our life,health and safety,and ensure steady and healthy development of the world economy.This translation report takes the EU’s regulations on animal-derived food as the original text in the hope of making some contribution to the formulation of domestic food safety regulations and at the same time,arousing more attention from domestic Chinese to animal food safety.This selected text is originally entitle "COMMISSION DELEGATED REGULATION(EU)2019/625 of 4 March 2019 supplementing Regulation(EU)2017/628 of the European Parliament and of the Council with regard to requirements for the entry into the Union of consignments of certain animals and goods intended for human consumption".The translation practice is supposed to help the Chinese people gain more knowledge about the food safety regulations,laws and policy abroad.This report adopts the translation theories suitable for translating legal texts,which are characterized with frozen style,condensed syntax,and formal lexicon with much jargon.It also uses some translating techniques to ensure the accurate and proper conveyance of the meaning of words as well as the information of the text.Prior to translating,the author had familiarized herself with relevant laws and regulations and other parallel texts,so as to summarize the expression of related terms,the syntax structures,and the features of text structure.In the process of translation,the translation problems encountered by translators include the translation of legal terms at the lexical level,the translation of sentence structures at the sentence level,and the use of legal language at the textual level.Translators put forward corresponding solutions to these problems.The significance and value of this practice report are reflected in the fact that it deepens the translator’s understanding of legal texts and the expectation that it will provide specific help to the translation of the same type of texts and promote the improvement of domestic legal and regulatory documents.
