C-E Translation Of Technical Specifications For Multi-grade Asphalt Cement With Reference To Text Typology

As the ongoing trend of economic cooperation with oversea countries,the demand for pragmatic translation has also increased.Scholars believe that the depth of analysis on pragmatic translation in our country is incompatible with this trend.The pinpoint lies in the discussion of theoretical concepts and translation strategies(Jia,2004).In recent years,German functionalist translation theories have played an important role in translation practice,such as the translation in medicine,tourism,technology and politics areas.It is remarked that the analysis of pragmatic translation shows significance in current economic situation.With reference to Reiss’s Text Typology,this thesis discusses pragmatic translation at the textual,syntactical and lexical level.It aims to provide adequate and accuracy rendition of the source text.The source text concerns with standardized specifications for Multi-grade asphalt cement.A variety of scientific information and testing data are displayed in the source text.Therefore,translator shall pay attention to the logic and accuracy of target language to achieve the same function in the source text.First,the author analyzes language function of the source text and defines it shall fall into the category of informative text.At the syntactic level,translation strategies of division and addition for long and complex sentences are analyzed.For non-subject sentences,three translation strategies ensure adequate and accurate information transmission:addition of the omitted subject,conversion from active voice into passive voice,using non-finite verbs as the subject.At the lexical level,terms and high frequency collocation words are figured out to analyze translation strategies of literal translation and conversion.Multiple translation strategies are adopted in the target text to ensure a concise and accurate rendition.It is hoped that the translation strategies discussed in this thesis could shed some light on pragmatic translation and push forward the research of Text Typology in pragmatic translation.
