The development of modern science and technology has led human beings into a new era:various technologies are becoming more and more mature,which has brought infinite possibilities of changing daily life,working styles and innovative methods.Among them,Virtual Reality(VR)and Augmented Reality(AR)are emerging technologies,to which people attach great importance.In recent years,VR&AR technologies have been gradually developed.Due to great technical performance,their application fields are extensive.However,because of its late starting,the development is still not mature enough.Through the translation practice,the complexity and severe challenges of VR&AR technologies can be known and understood.It is of great referential value and enlightenment for China to solve the problems faced by VR&AR industries.Therefore,the Chinese translation of the source text has great practical significance.Under the background of economic globalization,many large international enterprises are paying great attention to VR&AR industries.The translator takes the core chapter of the book Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality:Myths and Realities written by industry experts and professors as the source text of this translation practice.On the basis of it,the translation report mainly analyzes and studies the translation methods and skills of scientific and technological texts from the perspective of functional equivalence.It consists of four parts:Part one focuses on translation task description,which introduces the source text,task significance and text characteristics.Part two describes the translation process,including preparations before translation,duration of the task and quality control.As the most important part of the translation report,part three analyzes some typical cases in the original text under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory at lexical,syntactic and discourse levels.Part four summarizes translation experience,lessons and deficiencies in this translation practice.The report aims to promote exchange of VR&AR technologies.At the same time,it is hoped that the translated version will be helpful to improve the quality of translation of scientific and technological texts and provide reference for other translators.
