This translation project is aimed at providing reference for domestic research in the field of virtual reality(VR)and Unreal Engine,and the author has also summarized and concluded translation experience through the completion of this translation report,which could provide beneficial reference for the translation of similar texts in the future.The source text of this translation report is an excerpt from Unreal for Mobile and Standalone VR,in which the VR industry,production methods of VR products as well as Unreal Engine are introduced.Under the guidance of Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory,the translation methods of scientific texts are discussed through the analysis and comparison of the original material and the translation.This report introduces the translation project,translation process and functional equivalence theory,and analyzes how to apply various translation methods to achieve functional equivalence from aspects of vocabulary,syntax and discourse.After the case analysis,the author found that at the lexical level,the original text adopted a lot of professional terms and common words with specific meanings of the computer field,and at the syntactic level,passive sentences and long sentences are frequently used.Besides,the original text is smooth and coherent at the textual level.Therefore,the author applies the methods of word extension and word meaning conversion to the translation of words,and linear translation,inversion and division to the translation of sentences.For textual translation,the author focuses on the cohesion and coherence of target texts,and the textual equivalence is realized through lexical cohesion and grammatical cohesion based on the differences between English and Chinese.At the end of the report,the author summarizes the research achievements and the shortcomings,and puts forward prospects and suggestions for the report,wishing to offer some enlightenment for the future translation practice of similar scientific and technological texts.
