| In recent years,standards-based teaching has attracted increasing attention from researchers,and the implementation of curriculum standards constitutes an important part.The promulgation of the “Senior High School English Curriculum Standards 2017” marks a new stage in the reform of the English curriculum for senior high schools in China,which has pointed out fresh direction and objectives,and adjusted curriculum purposes,objectives,contents,structures,teaching and evaluation methods.“Curriculum Standards2017” is the weathervane of curriculum reform,whose implementation is in the spotlight.Therefore,in the context of the new curriculum reform,contraposing the characteristics of the English subject,this study adapted the questionnaires for measuring teachers’ implementation of curriculum standards developed by Cui Yunzheng and his team to investigate and analyze teachers’ implementation of the “Curriculum Standards 2017” in four cities of Jiangxi Province.Meanwhile,interviews were conducted to explore its influencing factors.And corresponding strategies were proposed to promote the implementation of the “Curriculum Standards 2017”.The questionnaires of teachers’ implementation of curriculum standards revealed that out of 11 secondary indexes “teaching material usage”,“teaching methods” and“curriculum standards comprehension” are best-implemented.While “professional development”,“curriculum standards perception” and “curriculum satisfaction” are poorly implemented.Generally speaking,the implementation of the “Curriculum Standards 2017”by high school English teachers is slightly above average.By comparing different groups of high school English teachers,it is found that the implementation extent of “Curriculum Standards 2017” varies considerably across different population groups,which highlights that urban teachers’ implementation are significantly above that of the teachers in towns;that teachers in the provincial capital have achieved considerably higher implementation degree than teachers in other cities;that teachers with a full round of teaching experience score much higher than those who are without;and that teachers with 0-5 years of teaching experience score significantly higher than teachers with over 20 years of teaching experience.The interviews of the influencing factors found that the characteristics of text curricula,the teachers and school environment,students’ differences and parents’ support,evaluation and examination,teaching culture and resources will affect teachers’ implementation of “Curriculum Standards 2017”.Centering on these factors,suggestions were proposed to provide a reference for the implementation of “Curriculum Standards2017”.(1)The cultivation system should be perfected,the efficiency of in-service teacher training should be enhanced,and collaborative development should be strengthened between the pre-service teacher education and the Curriculum Standards.(2)Manifold English curriculum resources should be developed,the constraints of teaching materials and college entrance examinations should be broken,collaborative development should be achieved between curriculum resources and the Curriculum Standards,and modern education technique should be applied to support and serve teaching and learning.(3)Different groups should work collectively,including principals,curriculum workers,teachers,students,and their parents.(4)The evaluation system should be improved,the performance-oriented evaluation methods should be reformed,and an organic evaluation mechanism that integrates teaching,learning,and evaluation should be developed.(5)Cooperative culture and professional learning community should be established to enhance the exchange and collaboration among teachers,and to promote the efficiency of cooperation. |
