| The source text of this translation practice is Food Culture in Northeast China(Chapter Ten)written by Liao Xiaoqing.Just as the title shows, the book mainly introduces the food culture of all ethnic groups in Northeast China. The tenth chapter of the book focuses on the development of the Han Ethnic Group as well as its food culture. In terms of the language,it is objective and standard. The language of the book is featured with plenty of cultural-loaded words, which poses a great challenge to the author. As a result, the C-E translation of cultural-loaded words is the focus of this thesis.Based on Newmark’s classification of cultural-loaded words, this thesis mainly divides the cultural-loaded words into three categories:material cultural-loaded words, political cultural-loaded words and social cultural-loaded words.Effective translation strategies such as transliteration with annotations, literal translation with annotations and free translation are adopted to deal with the difficulties caused by cultural-loaded words through case analysis. Finally,a summary has been made of the translation strategies separately adopted by the three types of cultural-loaded words in the form of table.Throughout the whole process, the author has improved a lot both in translation competence and skills. At the same time, the translation practice also checks out the author’s weaknesses and guides the author to reap more fruits in the following translation practice. |
