According to the goal of cultural teaching awareness proposed by the new curriculum standard,the English teachers’ cultural teaching awareness plays an important role in English teaching.This thesis investigates and studies the cultural teaching awareness of junior high school English teachers.The purpose is to find and solve the existing problems,so as to provide a reference for strengthening the cultural teaching in junior high school English teaching.The author conducts a questionnaire survey on the current situation of cultural teaching awareness of 123 English teachers in junior high schools from five schools in Fuxin,Liaoning Province.12 English teachers were interviewed according to the results of the questionnaire.The questionnaire is made based on Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standard(2011 Edition),the Sapir-Wolf hypothesis,intercultural communication theory and Taylor’s curriculum theory,which includes four dimensions: goal awareness,implementation awareness,resource awareness,and evaluation awareness.The research questions are as follows:(1)What is the overall status of junior high school English teachers’ cultural teaching awareness?(2)What is the current situation of junior high school English teachers’ cultural teaching awareness among different genders,teaching ages and educational levels?(3)What are the problems discovered by investigating junior high school English teachers’ cultural teaching awareness?The research results show that:(1)Junior high school English teachers have strong cultural teaching awareness,but their cultural teaching ability is to be improved.Because teachers lack knowledge and professional literacy in culture,teachers will avoid the transfer of cultural knowledge in teaching;(2)In comparison to four dimensions,resource awareness among cultural teaching awareness is the weakest.Due to the heavy teaching tasks and the responsibility to the family,there is no more time and energy to supplement cultural knowledge and improve cultural teaching ability;(3)According to the results of the group analysis,there is no significant difference.However,there is a significant difference between implementation awareness and teaching age.Novice teachers are affected by university cultural education and have a stronger implementation awareness.In view of above,the author made several suggestions:(1)Enrich activities to enhance cultural teaching interest and optimize the evaluation system for teachers;(2)Provide cultural resources for teachers;(3)Strengthen cultural teaching training for in-service teachers.The conclusion of this research is that the junior high school English teachers’ cultural teaching awareness in Fuxin City is generally strong,and the existing problems have some reasons,which requires schools to pay more attention to it.
