How To Predict One’s Personality Trait By Selfies On Short Video Platforms

With the development of the Internet,predicting user personality traits through digital cues in social media has become an emerging research field.The main theoretical basis in the field is the lens model.The lens model refers to the use of selfreported psychological traits,other-rated psychological traits and environmental cues to calculate cue validity,cue sensitivity,cue utilization and accuracy to determine the accuracy of predicting individual personality traits based on environmental clues.Previous studies using Facebook,Twitter and other social media found that the use of individual status updates,selfies and other information on social media can accurately predict their personality traits.Selfies on short video provide more information than digital traces,text,selfies,etc.,and also provide more clues to predict the personality traits of users.The paradigm of photo selfies to predict personality traits was applied in the study to selfies on short video,and explores which clues in short video selfies can predict personality traits through two studies.Selfie clues on short video were compiled according to the photo selfie clue coding paradigm in study 1.Among them,the main codes include follows: performance,background music,number of selfies,shooting action,emotional expression,camera position,body appearance rate and body appearance position,position information,and retouching decoration.In Study 1,120 users are randomly selected from the "Tik Tok" short video platform.Coder encoded the selfies clues and score their personality traits based on the users’ short video selfies.The lens model is used in Study 2 to verify the relationship between the personality traits and short video selfie cues in Study 1.Self-reported personality traits,personality scored by others and short video selfie clues of 172 " Tik Tok " short video selfie users were used to calculate cue validity,cue sensitivity,cue utilization and accuracy.In addition,the relationship between short video selfies and their personality traits of different genders were compared.The research results show that some short video selfie cues can accurately predict the personality traits of selfies,especially extroversion;the correlation between male personality traits and short video selfies is more related to the relationship between female personality traits and short video selfies.The above research results have certain practical significance for users on the short video platform for self-portraits,and also have theoretical significance for the research on personality prediction.
