| This thesis consists of three parts: source text, target text and translation report. The source text is chapter 5 of English Pronunciation Teaching and Research: Contemporary Perspectives. The book explores pronunciation teaching and research from the aspects of language learning theory, language assessment, technological developments. The fifth chapter gives a description of the application of technology in pronunciation teaching, learning and assessment. The source text contains 12,000 words and has not been translated into Chinese. In the translation report, the translator introduces the translation background, motivation and significance of this translation practice.According to the text type of the source text, the translator adopts Newmark’s communicative translation as the theoretical. This theory tries to produce the same effect on the target readers as the original. Therefore, the readability and clarity of the target text should be emphasized.the translator chooses appropriate translation strategies from lexical and syntactic level to realize Newmark’s communicative translation.Through this translation practice, the translator expects to spread the achievements of western phonetics,so as to promote the application of western advanced achievements in phonetics teaching and research in China. From this translation practice, the translator realizes that the translator should regard himself as the reader first rather than “a transparent man” to test the readability and comprehensibility of the target text.At the same time, the translator should try his best to keep a balance between the original content and the translation effect. |
