| According to the requirements of English Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education(2011 Edition),English education should make students to learn and use language in context. In addition, teachers should expand students’ English learning and application channels, such as learning English with audio-visual products. However, the current English listening and speaking classroom teaching in junior high schools gives too much attention to teaching vocabulary and grammar, and the classroom activities are mainly based on textbook exercises. In order to change this situation, some researchers believe that English film clips can be used in English listening and speaking teaching in a middle school, because this teaching mode can improve students’ listening and speaking skills. However, the current research is mainly logical research, while empirical research is less.In the light of constructivism, and Krashen’s input hypothesis and affective filter hypothesis, the author conducted an empirical study on the application of English movie clips in teaching English listening and speaking at a junior high school in Foshan City,Guangdong Province. The experimental class was Class 5,Grade 8,and the control class was Class 6,Grade 8.Three research questions would be answered:(1)What are the teachers’ perceptions towards the application of English movie clips in teaching English listening and speaking at a junior high school?(2)What is the impact on students’ English learning achievements when a teacher uses English movie clips to teach English listening and speaking at a junior high school?(3)What are the students’ learning attitudes towards the application of English movie clips in teaching English listening and speaking at a junior high school? The answers to the above questions are:(1)Teachers have the opinion that when we apply English film clips to teach English listening and speaking at a junior high school,we could first select the appropriate film clips according to the theme of each module of the textbook. Then,we could adopt the English listening and speaking teaching mode of combination of dialogues in a textbook and dialogues in movie clips.Namely, teachers can start from the topic of each module in a textbook, first present the dialogue of the textbook, then select an English movie fragment according to the module topic of the textbook and take it as the course content to teach students English listening and speaking.(2)When a teacher uses English movie clips to teach English listening and speaking at a junior high school, students’ English learning achievements have not been improved in the research stage. This is contrary to the research results of some researchers, because the research time is relatively short;the English level of the research subjects is relatively weak and their acceptance ability is relatively slow;the comprehensible input provided by the teaching experiment is still not enough.(3)Students have a positive learning attitude towards the application of English film clips in teaching English listening and speaking at a junior high school. Most students agree that teachers should take English film clips as the listening and speaking materials at a junior high school. They are in favor of the teaching method of English listening and speaking teaching assisted by English film clips and enjoy the activities in the teaching process.According to the research results,in order to ensure the teaching effect, the author provides some teaching suggestions for teachers on the precautions of English film clips used in teaching English listening and speaking at a junior high school.(1)Choose English film clips resources properly.(2)Prepare well before class and be familiar with teaching materials and teaching process.(3)Around the plot of the film segment, plan activities reasonably and focus on improving students’ language ability.(4)Make clear the central position of students in the process of listening and speaking learning.(5)Give full play to the guiding role of teachers. |
