In April 2022,the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 edition)was officially released.It points out that we should cultivate socialist builders and successors with Chinese feelings,international vision and cross-cultural communication ability.It also puts forward a specific teaching method named the view of English learning activities which emphasizes the combination of learning and thinking,application and creation.The cultivation of listening and speaking skills is of great significance in foreign communication and cooperation and in the process of improving one’s comprehensive language ability.Junior high school is the best time to cultivate listening and speaking skills.However,the skills have not received enough attention in this period.There are still some problems,such as focusing on language knowledge,ignoring the cultivation of students’ character and quality,and making subject education value empty and superficial(Lian Mei,2008;Zhou Qi,2012;Li Zhengtao,2019).Therefore,it is of great importance to explore effective listening and speaking teaching methods under the guidance of the new curriculum standard and the view of English learning activities.We aim to change the fragmented teaching methods which focus on vocabulary and grammar and ignore context,improve students’ comprehensive language application ability and promote the formation of core qualities.Also,it can help to cultivate high-quality foreign language talents and contribute to China’s going to the world and the world’s understanding of China.Based on the view of English learning activities,this study is carried out through literature research,questionnaire survey and classroom observation.First of all,literature related to activity view and listening and speaking teaching in English learning is extensively collected to understand the research status and future development trend in this field,so as to determine the direction of this research.Then,a representative urban,suburban and rural middle school in Wanzhou district was selected to conduct a questionnaire survey among 90 teachers and about 300 students,and 20 middle school English listening and speaking classes were observed in class.The aim is to know the current teaching situation of "the view of English learning activities",and give suggestions for its shortcomings.The research focuses on the following three aspects:(1)How do junior high school English teachers know about the the view of English learning activities?(2)How do junior high school English listening and speaking teaching activities fit in with the view of English learning activities?(3)Which aspects should be improved in junior high school English listening and speaking classroom activities,so as to better practice the view of English learning activities?The survey shows that junior high school English teachers lack sufficient understanding of "the view of English learning activities";The fit degree between listening and speaking teaching activity design and activity concept needs to be further improved.Specifically,learning and understanding activities basically meet the requirements of the course standard,while application and practice activities need to be further improved.Migration and innovation activities are rarely involved.In order to better promote the implementation of new curriculum standards,we need to make improvements in the following aspects: Firstly,we should strengthen teachers’ theoretical learning by education department,school and teacher themselves.Secondly,in activity design.Create a real situation to stimulate students’ desire to express,analyze the discourse and pay attention to the communicative characteristics,analyze the theme deeply to enhance the value of education,give positive feedback and multiple evaluation,integrate resources to broaden learning channels and students’ horizons.
