A Report On The Simulated Chinese-English Consecutive Interpreting Of Will Sci-tech Innovation Board Be Chinese Version Of NASDAQ (Excerpt)

In December 2018,the 11 th Elite Annual Meeting of Huashang was held in Wuhan with over 1,500 attendees.The theme of the meeting is “Transformation,Innovation,Enpowerment and Win-win”.This report is based on the Chinese-English simulated consecutive interpreting of Dr.Cheng Xiaoming’s keynote speech Will Sci-tech Innovation Board Be Chinese Version of NASDAQ at the sub-forum.In order to rise to interpreting challenges and to convey the information of source language correctly,it is necessary for the interpreter to adopt appropriate tactics when interpreting.According to the Interpretive Theory,the objective of translation is communicational sense instead of concrete linguistic signs.Among the three levels of interpreting: lexis,sentence and discourse,interpreting on the discourse level is the most important one.Interpreting consists of three stages: comprehension,deverbalization and re-expression,among which deverbalization is the core concept of the theory and the main task of interpreters.Under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory,the interpreter tries to analyze the challenges and corresponding tactics in the interpreting practice.Through comparative analysis of source language and target language,the interpreter summarizes the challenges that she encountered in the interpreting practice,namely,the interpreting of Chinese idioms,run-on sentences and redundant information and gives some tactics including paraphrasing,substitution,logic-processing,generalization,delaying note-taking and simplification to cope with these challenges.Through the analysis of this interpreting practice,the interpreter hopes these tactics proves effective to improve the interpreter’s performance of consecutive interpreting and this report can provide references for other interpreters.
