Kiyoshi Saito is an excellent printmaker in Modern Japan,whose watermark woodcut works are well-known in the world.The unique woodblock technique of Kiyoshi Saito integrates the western modern expressionism in the traditional performance of Japan,which forms the artistic style with modern artistic creation characteristics and Oriental aesthetic characteristics.What`s more,this paper tries to discuss the skillful use of "mark and texture",the unique language and artistic style embodied in the art creation of Kiyoshi Saito woodcut.The article is divided into four parts: the first part mainly expounds the relationship between Kiyoshi Saito and Japanese Modern Printmaking,which takes the time before and after the Second World War as the time background,and it briefly combs the development origin of Japanese Modern Printmaking.Besides this,it brings the artistic creation of Kiyoshi Saito into the background of the development of Japanese Modern Printmaking and combs the context of the artistic creation of Kiyoshi Saito printmaking.The purpose of this chapter is to explain the artistic creation and the times.The second part combs the artistic style of Kiyoshi Saito engraving from the subject matter,aesthetic language and expression form.The purpose of this chapter is to emphasize the relationship between artists and the times.The third part is to classify the characteristics of the art language of Kiyoshi Saito,which mainly describes the relationship between art language and art style.The last part summarizes the aesthetic attributes expressed in the art works of Kiyoshi Saito and the impact on the creation of Chinese contemporary watermark woodcut.
