Semiotics aims to absorb any semiotic system, regardless of its substance and scope.Images, gestures, musical sounds, objects, and the complex associations they make up together constitute the content of rituals, conventions,or public entertainment. If they do not constitute language, they at least constitute a referential system. There has been the application and learning of symbols since the beginning of human civilization.Symbols have an inseparable relationship with human civilization and the natural world.Only after the theory of semiotics was explicitly put forward by Saussure and Pierce at the beginning of the last century did scholars in various fields began to pay attention to the understanding and learning of symbols, and attach great importance to the research between symbols and visual images.Today, while the success of disciplines such as linguistics, information theory, formal logic, and structural anthropology provides semantic analysis for new tools, our research on visual image in the semiotic field of vision has also opened a new prelude. The spiritual lifeline of the Chinese nation lies in our inheritance of excellent Chinese culture. This is also related to the survival and development of the nation for thousands of years, and to the long-lasting sublimation and historic progress of the Chinese civilization. As intangible cultural heritage, geographical indications studied in this thesis can be described as an important spiritual support and material carrier of China’s splendid culture."For a tree to grow tall, its foundation must be laid;for a river to flow long, its water source must be dug deep." Intangible-cultural-heritage geographical indications have played an important role in the development of cultural industries and been a gorgeous treasure of world civilization. With the change of time, more and more people have recognized the importance of culture in promoting economic development, and the protection and development of intangible-cultural-heritage geographical indications has more inexplicable values. In the article "Intangible-cultural-heritage geographical indications should not be forgotten",Professor Shang Shimin,a scholar studying geographical indications, put forward the idea that "Intangible-cultural-heritage geographical indications" is a newly emerged concept in the practice of geographical indications in China, and an inevitable product of the high development of intangible cultural heritage and geographical indications.Geographical indications and appellations of origin originated in France. So far, they have developed and improved for more than a hundred years and have become a high-frequency vocabulary for international trade today. As a representative of excellent traditional culture, intangible cultural heritage and geographical indications were originally two intersected concepts. They share the same roots, are compatible but not the same. They have inextricable historical and cultural origins in culture. The mutual penetration of the two makes their cultural value more abundant. The measures, aiming to promote the development of "intangible cultural heritage registered as geographical indications" through the research on the creation of visual image symbols of intangible-cultural-heritage geographical indications, have effectively promoted the development of cultural and creative industries. This thesis takes Songtao Miao embroidery, the intangible cultural heritage of Guizhou province,as a representative, and use semiotic theory as a guide to study and discuss the creation of the visual image of the intangible cultural heritage. In addition, the thesis discusses the issues related to "intangible cultural heritage and geographical indications",so as to discover and explore the connotation, commonality and value of these two concepts. From the perspective of design, the writer applies the methods and knowledge of design arts to contribute to the creation of distinctive ethnic culture and the visual image of intangible-cultural-heritage geographical indications. This article is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction to the research, which mainly focuses on the research background, research significance, and research methods. The second chapter is the review of related research at home and abroad, including the research on semiotics and the development of Miao embroidery,as well as the development and current status of the intangible-cultural-heritage geographical indications in Guizhou Province, where Song Tao Miao Embroidery belongs. The third chapter is the conceptual interpretation of related theories, including the related content of intangible-cultural-inheritage geographical indications and visual images, which paves the way for the application of semiotics in ntangible-cultural-inheritage geographical indications in the next chapter. The fourth chapter expands the application of semiotics in the creation of intangible-cultural-inheritage geographical indications and visual images,as well as the specific content of visual image creation and the characteristics of symbol extraction. The fifth chapter is related to the graduation design, taking Songtao Miao embroidery as an example to develop creative practices for the visual image of intangible-cultural-inheritage geographical indications. The author applies the previous theoretical research to practice and analyzes specific cases and problems from a theoretical perspective. The last part of the thesis is the conclusion, acknowledgements, etc.
