English writing is one of the five necessary language skills required by the New English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School(2017),and it is a productive skill.Students in high school have mastered enough vocabulary and grammar knowledge to complete a composition.However,the lack of ability to think about vocabulary,grammar and syntax when students are writing leads to a logical mess,resulting in the fact that students are generally at a lower writing level and have difficulty developing a strong interest in writing.Although the traditional teaching method could make up for the gap in students’ language knowledge,it is difficult to improve their autonomy to write.Therefore,this thesis comes up with a method for teaching English writing based on Mind Mapping,which helps students organize language.The aim is to study the application and functions of Mind Mapping used in teaching English writing in high school.It may also provide a valuable reference for teaching English writing in the future.Two senior three classes were selected from Xining SS Middle School as the research subjects.Among them,53 students in the experimental class were taught with an English writing teaching method based on Mind Mapping,and 54 students in the control class continued to learn writing with the established teaching model.This study applied Mind Mapping to English writing teaching on the basis of understanding the current situation of English writing teaching and learning in Xining SS middle school,aiming to explore the results and impacts of using Mind Mapping to teach English writing in this school.This study started in February 2019 and ended in January 2020,lasting 11 months.It adopted three research instrument,including questionnaires,tests and interviews,with the experimental data being analyzed by SPSS.The results of this study show that: 1)After the experiment,students’ writing scores in the experimental class were obviously higher than those in the control class.2)Mind Mapping had a positive effect on students’ writing logic,fluency and interest;3)The use of Mind Mapping changed students’ traditional boring writing mode,so that they were more receptive to the activities and training of writing freely.Therefore,the application ofMind Mapping helped to cultivate students’ interest in writing and improve their writing performance.Although the mode of teaching English writing in a high school based on Mind Mapping is an effective method and has certain practical significance,it is necessary to fully understand the correct time of implementation,using proper techniques,and correctly dealing with the negative effects caused by it.
