| In 1905,under the background of abolishing the imperial examination,carrying out the new school education and spreading Western learning to the East,the compilation and use of local records began in China.As a document form that integrates local records and local teaching materials,local records is characterized by patriotism and love of the hometown.Its compilation lasted until the third year of Xuantong(1911),forming a booming period of local records compilation.As one of the educational contents of the new education in China,local records,together with the new educational forms such as the school system reform,is an important sign and content of the establishment and development of the new education,and an indispensable content of the modern education research in China.The compilation and use of local records also contribute to the national consciousness and national emotion in the process of the transformation of modern China and the construction of modern nation-state in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China.Of course,the compilation of local records,in terms of style,content,data source and use,has been innovated and developed on the basis of traditional local records,and has had a great impact on the compilation of local records and local chronicles in the period of the Republic of China.The understanding and research of local records is still an important starting point for us to explore and we should make good use of this rich heritage to study the Chinese national history and modern history.Therefore,the in-depth study of local records at the end of Qing Dynasty is of great value to the study of Chinese educational history,Chinese national history,Chinese modern history and philology.In addition,under the historical conditions of building socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era,on the one hand,we should carry forward China’s excellent history and culture,adhere to cultural self-confidence and tell the Chinese story well to the world.On the other hand,we should strengthen the education of patriotism and love of the hometown,cultivate patriotism in the young generation,and strengthen the resistance to the attempts of the division of China by some countries and forces with ulterior motives.At the end of Qing Dynasty,the compilation and education of local records undoubtedly had strong practical reference significance.At present,there are many studies on the local records in the academic circle,including the general situation,basic contents,styles and functions of the compilation of local records,as well as the special studies on the local records in some areas,forming a solid foundation for further discussion.However,there are still many problems in current research.Firstly,the research on the local records in the late Qing Dynasty,which is in the initial stage,has been put into the system of local records in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China,and sometimes have even been put into the system of Chinese local textbooks for discussion,which not only weakens the stage characteristics of the compilation of local records in the late Qing Dynasty and its connotation and function,but also makes the study of this stage in a subsidiary position.Secondly,the existing achievements are concentrated in the nature,compilation style,language style,ideological content and other aspects of local records,most of which are carried out within the limits of regions,few of which are focused on the local records nationwide at the end of the Qing Dynasty,and lack of overall in-depth research.In view of this,this paper studies the local records compiled in the late Qing Dynasty(1904-1911),analyzes its special historical background,and discusses the different value orientations of the local and national,individual and group in expressing patriotic thoughts in the late Qing Dynasty.This paper is divided into four chapters.Starting from the historical background of the local records in the late Qing Dynasty,and it explores the characteristics of the local records in compiling groups and styles,then it analyzes the different value orientations of the local records in expressing the thoughts of patriotism and love for the hometown,and finally analyzes the ideological and cultural connotations and precious historical value of the local records.As a new type of local literature,local records have taken on the mission of expressing the thoughts of compilers since they came into being.The Qing government issued the local records catalogue as the official guidance,but the political position of the local records compilers from the beginning determined that they wanted to cultivate different people through the local textbooks,so the local textbooks compiled by different identity of local textbook writers are quite different.Generally speaking,in the late Qing Dynasty,there were local textbooks with "loyalty to the emperor" as the main orientation under the leadership of local officials,local textbooks with the theme of "improvement" and "self-improvement" which is compiled by educators influenced by western thoughts and local textbooks compiled by Institute of Chinese Learning Preserving,Nanshe and other associations to awaken national self-esteem and self-confidence through the pride of their hometown.Although compilers have different purposes of cultivating loyal citizens or modern citizens,the overall value orientation of compiling local records is the same,that is to say,they hope to cultivate students’ patriotism and love for their hometown with the help of local education,so that they can become new-style citizens who "love their hometown for patriotism",and achieve the goal of enriching the country and strengthening the people.In addition,local records are also valuable in spreading modern ideological knowledge and preserving local documents and historical materials.At present,the local education has not formally entered the primary and secondary schools in China,but we should not neglect the role of local education in cultivating children’s patriotism and love of the hometown. |
