Although the academic community advocates strengthening the teaching of written language skills for learners,in fact,there is a problem of insufficient written language awareness in teaching materials or teachers.Scholars such as Liu Xun believe that the cultivation of learners’ written language ability should be gradually strengthened from the intermediate to advanced stages.Intermediate and advanced comprehensive textbooks are important materials for learners to learn languages.The written vocabulary in these textbooks plays an extremely important role in the development of learners’ written language ability.A targeted study of written language vocabulary in intermediate and advanced textbooks will help to discover the advantages and disadvantages of written language layout in textbooks and improve them.In this study,intermediate and advanced comprehensive textbooks of Developing Chinese and Boya Chinese are used as the object of study.We compared and analyzed the number,grades and annotations of the written words in these textbooks.First,we set up a written word framework that is made up of "Expressions of Written Chinese","Chinese Written Language Dictionary","Chinese Idiom Dictionary",and "Modern Chinese Dictionary"(seventh edition)to screen written words in textbooks.The four books about written language delineate the written language.We judged written words in these textbooks by the framework and counted up how many written words we found out.Secondly,comparing the number of written words in the intermediate and advanced comprehensive textbooks of Boya Chinese and Developing Chinese,we found that the number of written words in Boya Chinese is more than that in Developing Chinese;the number of written words in the second volume of textbooks is more than the first volume of textbook.Then we analyze the level of written words in the two sets of textbooks.We found that the written words in the intermediate comprehensive textbook Developing Chinese are mostly C-level words,and the written words in the intermediate comprehensive textbook Boya Chinese are mostly D-level words and superclass words;in the advanced comprehensive textbook,main written words in the two sets of textbooks are beyond the syllabus.Finally,we compared the notes for the written words in Developing Chinese with the notes for the written words in Boya Chinese,we found each textbook has its own advantages.Based on these findings,this article puts forward some opinion on the number of written words,the selection of grades,and the annotation of written words on a comprehensive textbook for teaching Chinese as a foreign language. |
