A Study On Religious Culture In Mak Yong Drama

The Mak Yong drama originated from the original belief of the ancestors,that is,animism or soul worship.As the oldest,most beautiful and most complex drama form on the Malay Peninsula,it is the most unique spiritual symbol of the Malays.In the continuous development of the Malay Peninsula,foreign religious cultures,especially Hindu-Buddhism and Islamic culture,have had a profound impact on them,and these influences are also reflected in Mak Yong drama.By consulting the literature,using the theories and methods of religious sociology and cultural anthropology to explore the historical and religious background of the development of Mak Yong drama,analyze the religious cultural manifestations in Mak Yong drama,and use a comparative method to study Mak Yong drama and the same religious and cultural backgrounds experienced by the ethnic performing arts in different regions of Southeast Asia during the development process have concluded that the Mak Yong drama not only continuously adapted to the religious changes in the Malay Peninsula,but also absorbed different religious cultures,especially Hindu cultures,while also retaining its primitive religious belief-animism or soul worship.At the same time,although the influence of Islamic culture on Mak Yong drama exists,the existence of concepts contrary to primitive religion in the culture has a certain impact on the development of Mak Yong drama.Coupled with the continuous development of Malaysian society and culture,the inheritance of Mak Yong drama also faces great challenges.
