| The in-depth development of globalization and the improvement of communication technology have brought about profound changes in the way of communication.And the Internet has gradually become a significant medium for people’s information transmission and international exchange.In this context,many well-known Chinese universities provide university-related important information for foreign students and scholars through the release of English news on their English official websites so as to improve international popularity and influence.Commissioned by Tianjin University(TJU)International Media Association,the author participated in the ChineseEnglish news translation task for TJU official website,serving the university’s international publicity.This report is a translation practice report on TJU English website news.The translated texts selected in the report were all accomplished by the author during the internship at TJU International Media Association.The report includes four chapters: task elaboration,process elaboration,case analysis based on Skopos Theory and summary.The third chapter is the focus of this report,which analyzes the translation methods of university news under the guidance of Skopos Theory.Following the principle of “ends justifying the means”,the author always keeps in mind the communicative purpose of “delivering TJU’s voice to the world” and adopts a series of translation methods to make the translated news readily accepted by English readers.At the lexical level,the author uses literal translation,appropriate addition or reduction,and lexical conversion to deliver information accurately and smoothly;at the syntactical level,sequential translation,word order adjustment,and voice conversion are adopted to make the translated texts consistent with target readers’ expression habits and reading expectations.By analyzing the news translation methods applied in this translation practice,the author finds that Skopos Theory is applicable to news translation practice.And it is hoped that the translation practice report could provide references for Chinese-English news translation. |
