"Data Trek":Orchestrating Online Data In Virtual Reality

As we have entered a rapidly digitalized era,around the new realities brought about by data,art creators also criticize and reflect on the current situation harshly through different approaches of experience.The author has continuously focused on the orchestrating of online data in virtual reality,with an eye on China’s online data environment,attempting to review the peculiar world of network culture we live in via a different kind of immersion perspective.Virtual reality,offers different possibilities for creation,provide the creators with a performing stage on which they could write with data unconventionally.Based on the author’s long-term creation plan— "Data Trek" —as the starting and ending point,this thesis,along with its analysis on the data-oriented art creations in different media,considers whether data realities could be rearranged and whether creators could in the virtual arena reconstruct the metaphorical space of reality projection via data reconstitution,thus creating a new and critical data format.In the context of data-oriented creative thinking,this thesis also rethinks the flowing and merging relationship between the virtual and realities,and tries to reconstruct the knowledge of virtual reality—the data-projected media—in practice,attempting to break out of the creation stereotypes of data conversion and landscape symbol accumulation as well as the inertial narrative traps of the prior virtual reality.
