A Report On The Translation Of Tectonics Of Indonesian Region From The Perspective Of Translation Norm

This translation practice report is based on the program of Tectonics of Indonesian Region.Briefly,the translation material involves characteristics of geological structure and the process of mineral formation,discussing structural background and evolution process in Indonesian region.Geology started with the human demand for mineral resource such as petrolem,coal,metals,non-metals and so on.With the increasing demand of society for mineral resource,the contradiction of supply and demand of minerals becomes intense.Abundant projects in the exploration are implemented in the world;therefore,the geology and science translation booms.However,translation difficulties exist for its specialized vocabulary,complicated and rigorous sentence structure,formal language style.Many translation errors are common,such as mistranslation of specialized words,syntactic logical confusion,lack of accuracy and simplicity in geology and science translation.Hence,the writer chooses the field of geology and science translation to study.For the sake of ensuring the accuracy and authenticity as well as the normalization of geological and science translation,the translation norm is adopted in the translation process.The report consists of four parts.The first part is the description of the translation task,involving the translation project,the significance of practice and the features of source language.The second part represents the translation process,including pretranslation preparation,while-translation stage and post-translation proofreading.The third part is the analysis of translation cases and the Toury’s translation norm is stressed.The last part is a summary of the translation practice,analyzing the achievements,difficulties as well as translation shortcomings.The author believes that the Toury’s translation norm is helpful to the accurate translation of texts after lots of translation practice of geology and science.The preliminary norm have influence on the decision in both source Language and target language system.The Initial norms guide and decide whether the translation close to target translation or source language.The operational norms manage source language from the perspective of translation techniques.They are conducive to avoiding mistranslation and ensuring the smoothness of the translation.The three norms are inseparable,con-stituting the Toury’s translation and serving translation together.In order to enhance the comprehension over translation norm and improve the translation ability,this paper analyzes the translation strategies adopted in the translation practice for the text of geo-logical science and technology.However,the paper is only a preliminary study on translation norm and problems such as noncomprehensive research objects,single research modes,inadequate research depth,lack of feasible measures still exist.The author is going to make more profound researches,widen horizons and modify the methods,thus to have greater achievements.
