This is a translation report on On Translator Ethics, written by Anthony Pym,who is an internationally renowned scholar. This book mainly discusses the various identities of translators such as in-betweens,professionals,interveners and missionaries, with its focus on translators, not texts.Specifically, this book is closely centered on two issues of “who translators are” and “what their purposes should be.” Its author seeks to embrace the intercultural identity of the translation subject.Besides, this book also extends to include critical commentaries on activist translation theory,non-professional translation, and the impact of new translation technologies. The translator is responsible for chapter four and part of chapter five that primarily introduce the dual identity of the translator: interveners and missionaries. This book is an academic work on translation ethics. With the formal style, objective words and rigorous logic, the book is defined as an informative text. Therefore, the translator mainly pays more attention to the authenticity of the source text, thereby adopting Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence theory and using communicative translation as the main strategy and semantic translation as the secondary one.The translator comprehensively uses various translation techniques such as conversion, restructuring and addition to analyze the difficulties encountered in the translation process from lexical, syntactical, textual and cultural level. The aim is to attain the four aspects of functional equivalence: lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence, textual equivalence and cultural equivalence.By analyzing and summarizing this translation practice, the translator has gained a new understanding of translator ethics that all translators have multiple identities such as in-betweens,messengers,professionals and interveners. This report intends to provide some reference for translation learners and enthusiasts in the future through this translation practice.
