| Since entering the 21st century, the number of single youths in China has been increasing, which has aroused widespread concern in society.A large number of researches shows that single youths do not pursue singleness, but adhere to their own standards of mate selection.Understanding the criteria and influencing factors of single youth’s mate selection plays an important role in helping single youth to establish a correct concept of mate selection and realize individual happiness and social harmony.Previous studies have shown that attachment patterns affect the individual’s mate selection criteria, and some scholars have found that self-esteem plays an important role in mate selection criteria, but few studies have explored the relationship among the three as a whole. Moreover,in the past, most of the research subjects were college students,so the description and guidance of the research results and conclusions for single youth(excluding school students)are not clear. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the relationship among attachment,self-esteem and mate selection criteria of single youth,in order to provide single youth more references for the choice of mate. The subjects of this study are 632 single social people registered on dating websites, whose ages range from 19 to 38 years old,and their permanent residence is in Shaanxi Province. The research tools are adult attachment scale(AAS),self-esteem scale(SES)and 12 mate selection standard scales compiled by Buss. The main research conclusions are as follows.(1)The level of close dependence and anxiety of single youth is higher than the theoretical value, the level of self-esteem is lower than the theoretical value, the level of communication ability and personality is higher than the theoretical value, and the level of social resources and appearance is lower than the theoretical value.(2)There are significant demographic differences in mate selection criteria among single youth.(3)The attachment of single youth can predict self-esteem,and the attachment of single social youth can predict mate selection criteria.(4)The self-esteem of single youth plays a part of intermediary role in the one dimension of closeness and dependence, personality in mate selection criteria, and in the two dimensions of anxiety and social resources and communication ability in mate selection criteria.Based on such research results,in the future practical operation, there are two ways to optimize the mate selection criterias of the single youth group. One is to directly change the individual’s mate selection criteria by adjusting the individual’s attachment level;the other is to indirectly adjust the individual’s mate selection criteria by improving the individual’s self-esteem. |
