The physical attractiveness stereotype have an important influence on the mate selection,that is,there is a physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection.College students are in the early stage of adulthood.Their outlook on life and values have been basically formed and stabilized.Love,mate selection and marriage adaptation are the development issues in early adulthood.It is of great practical significance to explore the influence mechanism of college students' physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection.Studies have shown that Men rated physical attractiveness more highly than women did,but does this mean that men are more likely to have a positive physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection of the opposite sex?This issue remains to be further studied.The owner hypothesis and the observer hypothesis to explain the reasons for the physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection from different angles,this study will simultaneously explore the reasons for the physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection from these two perspectives..Previous studies have suggested that the attraction of individual external appearance and individual self-esteem affect each other,however,this study considers that the evaluation of the self-esteem of individuals on the attractiveness of others' appearance also exists through the combing of the literature..In view of the shortcomings of the existing research,this study carried out the following three experiments: Experiment 1 explores the differences between gender in college students' physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection;Experiment 2 explores the differences between gender and explicit self-esteem in college students' physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection;Experiment 3 explores the differences between gender and implicit self-esteem in college students' physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection.Under the conditions of this study,the following conclusions were obtained:(1)Both boys and girls,compared to those who do not look good at the opposite sex,have a higher positive physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection for the good-looking opposite sex,and a higher negative physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection.(2)The negative physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection of female students on the opposite sex are obviously higher than that of male students,especially in the negative physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection of low-attractive opposite sex.The negative physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection of girls on low-attractive opposite sex are significantly higher than The negative physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection of boys on low-attractive opposite sex.(3)The negative physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection of males on highly attractive opposite sex are significantly higher than the negative physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection of low-attractive opposite sex.And are significantly higher than the negative physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection of females on highly attractive opposite sex.(4)High self-esteem men have more positive physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection about the opposite sex than high self-esteem women and low self-esteem men.(5)There is no significant difference in physical attractiveness stereotype of mate selection between college students with different levels of implicit self-esteem.
