A Study Of Cross-cultural Adaptation Among Southeast Asian Students In Shaanxi Province

Xi’an,as the main position in the development of the western region,boasts most colleges and universities in China.And with the implementation of the “Belt and Road Initiative”,more and more Southeast Asian students choose to study in Xi’an.In this situation,in order to make preparations for Southeast Asian students’ education and management,it is necessary for us to investigate their cross-culture adaptation in Xi’an.Using the theory of cross-cultural adaptation to analyze the relevant problems after Southeast Asian students’ arrival in Xi’an,and put forward specific suggestions.The study based on three universities in Xi’an,including Northwest University,Xi’an International Studies University,Shaanxi Normal University,took the Southeast Asian students of the three universities as respondents.By using qualitative and quantitative methods,investigating Southeast Asian students through questionnaires and interviews.Analyze the adaptation of Southeast Asian students in Shaanxi from five aspects: personal information,the motivation to come to China,psychological adaptation,learning adaptation,learning adaptation and life adaptation.The results show that,first of all,personal characteristics will have an impact on the cultural adaptation of Southeast Asian students,for example,students with a high level of Chinese language,extroverted personality,and integrated study abroad motivation have better intercultural adaptation in Shaanxi;secondly,campus cultural environment and social environment will have an impact on the cross-cultural adaptation of Southeast Asian students,the school’s comprehensive teaching management mechanism and social environment support can help Southeast Asian students adapt to the life in Shaanxi easily.According to the research results,this article puts forward suggestions for individual international students,universities and society,with the aim of improving the cross-cultural adaptability of Southeast Asian students.
