The classical poetry is a wonderful flower in Chinese traditional culture,representing the incomparable peak of Chinese classical literature.However,due to the highly condensed language of classical poetry,the era background of poetry creation is quite different from that of today’s society,which undoubtedly increases the difficulty of learning in the context of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.On the other hand,classical poetry is not widely used in practical communication.Many colleges and universities teach classical poetry as an elective course,so the study of classical poetry has not been paid attention to by foreign students in China for a long time.As the representative of ideographic characters,Chinese characters are the shining pearl in Chinese traditional culture.They not only record the long history of Chinese civilization,but also bear the heavy history and culture.The teaching of Chinese characters is a major difficulty in the international education of Chinese.For the teaching of Chinese characters,the Chinese international education circle has put forward a variety of practical methods,among which the teaching methods of etymology starts from the origin of Chinese characters,while teaching Chinese characters,let students feel the traditional Chinese culture.From the perspective of Chinese international education,this paper combines the language function and cultural communication function of poetry teaching,and intersperses the teaching method of etymology,so that students can appreciate Chinese classical poetry from the perspective of Chinese characters.This paper is divided into six parts: the first part is the introduction,which mainly discusses the background and significance of the topic,the research ideas and methods,and the current research status.The second part discusses the characters of the teaching of Chinese classical poetry as a foreign language in the first.On this basis the teaching of Chinese classical poetry as a foreign language is positioned,and its teaching value is discussed.The third part discusses the feasibility of etymology teaching in teaching Chinese classical poetry from the perspectives of psychology,pedagogy,philology and culturology.The fourth part expounds the principles and methods of applying etymology in teaching Chinese classical poetry as a foreign language through examples.The fifth part combines the theoretical basis of the previous parts,takes the classical poeme”Thoughts in the Still of the Night”and”Overnight in an Alpine Temple”as the teaching practice,and evaluates and puts forward the corresponding teaching countermeasures and suggestions.The sixth part summarizes the whole paper and points out the shortcomings.This paper mainly discusses the problem of teaching Chinese classical poetry as a foreign language based on the theory of etymology teaching,and provides useful reference for teaching Chinese as a foreign language,especially teaching Chinese classical poetry as a foreign language.
