This translation report is based on the popular science book The Furniture Bible written by Christophe Pourny. It covers the history of furniture style change, manufacturing technology,as well as methods to renovate and care for the furniture. It is expected to serve as a practical guidebook and reference for domestic interior designers, furniture designers, carpenters and furniture collectors as well as household DIYers. One important feature of the original text The Furniture Bible is large-scale use of adjectives to show the characteristics of different styles of furniture or specific function, which poses great difficulty to the translation practice. So,the quality of translation depends largely on accurate translation of these adjectives.Under the guidance of the communicative translation theory put forward by Peter Newmark in 1981,the author adopts the translation methods like conversion, amplification and restructuring according to the logic order to deal with the adjectives in two aspects: the adjectives used as the attribute and as predicative respectively in order to ensure the readability of the translated text. This report consists of five parts: introduction, analyses of the source text, translation process, translation difficulties and solutions and the conclusion of the whole translation process and the report. This paper demonstrates that the communicative theory is suitable for translating adjectives in popular science texts.Through 15 case analyses, the author expects that these translation methods will be beneficial to the translation of adjectives in the similar genre.
