As a special technical textbook,Elementary Chinese Reading and Writing Course which is used for learning Chinese by the second language learners,has a direct impact on Chinese learners’ Chinese reading and writing ability and interests in Chinese learning.Exercises,as a part of textbooks,whose application results are directly related to its settings.On the one hand,combined with the theory of second language acquisition and taken two sets of practice in the Developing Chinese Elementary Reading and Writing Course as an example,this thesis,in terms of the principles and formats of the exercises in the textbooks,conducts data statistics and makes case analysis from the point of view of quantity,types,order,topics and patterns of the exercises in the textbooks on the basis of other scholars’ research on exercises settings;on the other hand,based on the feedback of questionnaire survey of teachers and students,this paper evaluates the practice settings in the textbooks,putting forward some constructive suggestions for the practice settings and application in the primary reading and writing textbooks so as to play a positive role in improving the effect of exercises in the primary reading and writing textbooks.The main body of this article is divided into five chapters.Chapter one is not only introduces the reasons of topic and research status,but also illustrates research content,research methods and theoretical basis.In the second chapter,the thesis,at first,generally analyses the structure and content of Developing Chinese Elementary Reading and Writing Course;after that,this subsection focused analyses the principles and formats of the exercises in the textbooks;finally,this chapter makes a statistical analysis for the exercises from the quantity to types,order,subject and the correlation.Based on the interviews of teachers and students’ questionnaires,Chapter three investigates the usage information for reading and writing practice between teachers and students,and evaluates the advantages and disadvantages of the exercise settings.Chapter four puts forward numerous feasible and reasonable suggestions from the point of view of practice settings and teaching on teachers and students.The conclusion of the fifth chapter mainly states and summarizes the research results of this thesis,and points out some shortcomings of this thesis in the process of research;at the same time,this article also makes a prospect for the future research.
