With the continuous development of China’s economy,China’s research on foreign high-tech is increasing.This has also led to the rapid progress in the field of the E-C translation of English for Science and Technology(EST),as well as the higher demands on the level of the E-C translation of EST.There are big differences in language structure and grammatical structure between English and Chinese.In many cases,literal translation cannot well convey the accuracy and logic of the original text.Therefore,translation shifts between the original text and the target text are required.This situation is particularly prominent in the translation of EST,and it is also a common problem for many translators.As such,this paper takes Chapter 8-10 of Special Forces Water Warfare as the translation material,and takes The Catford translation theory as the support,and explores the practicality of Catford translation theory in the E-C translation of EST from the perspective of level shift and category shift.Through practical analysis,it is proved that Catford translation theory is very suitable for the translation of EST texts.From the author’s search statistics on the major academic websites,we can find that there is less research on the scientific text of the Catford translation theory.And in the analysis combined with the characteristics of E-C translation,the scientific and technological text has been refined and analyzed.The level and category are transformed into guidance,and the category transformation is divided into four directions: structure,category,unit and internal system transformation.From the perspective of tense,word,terminology,sentence patterns and so on to analyze and summarize translation skills.And it can effectively solve various difficult problems in E-C translation,and has a high applicability,guidance and operability for the translation of texts of EST in terms of naval diving. |
