Chinese medicine language has a strong metaphorical color. The study of Chinese medicine books from the perspective of metaphorical cognition belongs to the category of cognitive metaphor. At present, there are few researches on the metaphorical cognition of traditional Chinese medicine using the monographs of Materia Medica as the language materials. We select847 metaphorical expressions from the three handed down works of Zou Shu,a famous doctor in the Qing Dynasty, which are Ben Jing Shu Zheng,Ben Jing Xu Shu and Ben Jing Xu Shu Yao,to make people have a deeper understanding of the metaphorical characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine language Medical metaphorical thinking has a more comprehensive understanding, but also provides new reference materials for the development of cognitive linguistics.First of all,we explore the theoretical characteristics, thinking characteristics and cognitive characteristics of TCM,and find that the construction of metaphor cognition in TCM language is based on similarity. Then,we divide the metaphorical expressions in Zou’s works into three categories: human body, disease and medicine. Then,we divide the metaphorical expressions in each category into physical similarity, state similarity, functional similarity, sensory similarity and relationship similarity according to the types of similarity, and study the metaphorical cognition with typical examples. In view of the fact that there are quite a number of wonderful war metaphors in Zou’s works,we will make a separate chapter to focus on the analysis of the paragraphs containing war metaphors in Zou’s works. Finally, with the help of "metaphor mapping theory","cognitive salience theory" and "image schema theory" in cognitive linguistics,we summarize and sublimate the metaphor expression in Zou’s works.According to rough statistics, the proportion of drug images in Zou’s metaphorical expressions is the highest, accounting for 58.7%,reflecting Zou’s characteristics of taking Materia Medica as the core.Among the types of similarity, physical similarity and functional similarity contain the most corpus, accounting for 76.7% of the total number of metaphorical expressions of medical images(497 articles),which confirms the important position of the two therapeutic concepts and means of recognition formed under the guidance of "image thinking" in traditional Chinese medicine.Zou’s works are full of war metaphors, which show the long history of traditional Chinese medicine and multi-dimensional cognitive style."Metaphor mapping theory" uses a wide range of source domains to map human body, disease, traditional Chinese medicine and other target domains,so that we can use a new perspective to understand the theory of traditional Chinese medicine and the similarity between source domain and target domain.By highlighting and establishing the similarity between the source domain and the target domain, the cognitive salience theory makes the metaphorical connotation in the Chinese medicine language more concrete.By understanding the characteristics highlighted in metaphors,we can make people more aware of the focus of the practice of traditional Chinese medicine, which will help practitioners to understand the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, help practitioners to sort out their ideas, and make their prescriptions more innovative. We believe that strengthening the research of "cognitive salience" in metaphor of traditional Chinese medicine will make the research results more practical and instructive."Image schema theory" effectively applies various kinds of schema thinking that people have formed to the study of Chinese medicine language, making the image of human body, disease and medicine more three-dimensional and easy to identify. We can use the theory of cognitive linguistics to study the metaphorical cognition of the Chinese medicine language in Zou’s works, which proves the scientificity of the mutual reference between Chinese medicine and cognitive linguistics and the feasibility of their combination development. |
