| Sports news is a report on recent facts in sports,including sports competition,sports training,school sports and mass sports etc.Basketball Pioneers is regarded as the “dream team” of basketball news,bringing together the top reporters and commentators in the country’s basketball news coverage.It has been developed into the best and most authoritative professional basketball newspaper in China.With the rise and vigorous development of the domestic basketball competition,Chinese basketball team has become the most powerful team in Asia and a top team in the world,which draws more attention from sports experts,athletes and fans abroad.The international popularity of domestic basketball news is also increasing.Therefore,domestic basketball news translation and research have become a significant subject.Functional Equivalence Theory was proposed by American scholar Eugene Nida.“Functional Equivalence” means that the translation does not require a rigid correspondence on the surface of the text,but a functional equivalence between source language and target language.Nida believes that translation is not only the equivalence of lexical meaning but also the equivalence of semantic meaning and style.In view of this,based on the practical Chinese-English translation of Basketball Pioneers,and guided by Functional Equivalence Theory,this thesis tries to explore some translation strategies for sports news with the aims to make contributions to the exports of excellent domestic basketball games,to enhance the soft power of Chinese sports culture,to promote Chinese sports culture to go abroad,and to provide some inspirations for translation studies on sports news.This thesis consists of six chapters.The first chapter is an introduction to Basketball Pioneers,background,purpose,significance and framework of the thesis.The second chapter is the literature review of Functional Equivalence Theory and translation of sports news,which are divided into domestic and foreign aspects.The third chapter is the theoretical framework of the thesis,which clearly interprets the historical development,connotation,four dimensions of Functional Equivalence Theory and the feasibility of sports news translation guided by FunctionalEquivalence Theory.The fourth chapter is the text analysis of sports news,including the types and features of sports news,and language features of Basketball Pioneers.Chapter Five studies the translation strategies of sports news translation from equivalence in vocabulary,syntax,discourse and style so as to illustrate the feasibility of Functional Equivalence Theory in Chinese-English translation of sports news.The sixth chapter is a summary of the whole thesis,including the main findings and limitations of the study. |
