| In the international background of deepening communication between different countries,simultaneous interpretation has also attracted more attention of scholars in the field of interpretation.Through extensive observation and practice,the author found that both the student interpreters and professional interpreters have some omission in the process of simultaneous interpreting.Due to the complexity of simultaneous interpreting and the characteristics of Chinese expression,it is difficult for interpreters to accurately reproduce all information.The omission of some information in the original text can make the output more fluent and concise,while the omission of some other information will damage the integrity of the original text.Therefore,the ability of interpreter using omission strategy efficiently is the key to successful communication between parties with different linguistic and cultural backgrounds.This paper adopted the Effort Model and the Information Theory as the theoretical basis.Gile’s Effort Model has fundamental guiding significance to the field of interpreting;while the Information Theory,which originates from the field of mathematics and communication,provides a new perspective to the field of interpretation.From the view of process,the reasonable use of omission strategy can reduce the Noise in the process of Channel,which is is helpful for the better transmission of information.This study is designed to analyze the omission phenomenon in the way of experiment report,through the Information Theory and the Effort Model of Gile to analyze omission of student interpreters in the simulated C-E simultaneous interpretation experiment.The experiment subjects are 13 students of MTI Interpreting majors in Shaanxi Normal University of 2018,and the experiment materials are the speeches given by two Chinese speakers who were invited by the SI teacher to the classroom.By the method of simulated simultaneous interpreting,the subjects were arranged in the SI rooms for recording.After the experiment,the recordings were transcribed into the corresponding texts,and the omission by the experiment subjects got statistically categorized,summarized and analyzed.The author analyzed the types of the omission,the reasons of the omission as errors through the experiment results and the method of interviewing subjects.The experiment conclusion is that improper equipment operation,energy allocation problem,psychological problem,inadequate SI preparation and insufficient bilingual ability are the reasons for the omission as errors.Lastly,the paper puts forward some suggestions about how to use the omission strategy correctly,such as making sufficient preparation before translation,carrying out long-term interpretation training,constantly improving bilingual ability,mastering more interpretation skills and improving the psychological quality,etc. |
