A Report On The Translation Of "Ecological Principles Underlying The Increase Of Productivity Achieved By Cereal-Grain Legume Intercrops In Organic Farming.A Review"

Organic farming is of great concern to agricultural scientists because of its high food safety and environment-friendly practices.To improve productivity,taking full advantage of natural and biological resources has become the focus of organic farming.This is a report on the E-C translation of a journal article “Ecological Principles Underlying the Increase of Productivity Achieved by Cereal-Grain Legume Intercrops in Organic Farming.A Review” cited by SCI.Based on a series of field experiments,the article summarized the advantages of yield increase in organic farming intercropping.This report covers the whole process of translation practice,including the original text analysis,term database establishment,case study,translation assessment and summary.The source text has quite a few terminologies,passive voices and compound sentences.The author finds that the original text is an informative text based on text types proposed by Newmark.To deliver information on the source text truthfully,Newmark’s communicative translation approach is chosen as the guidance on the author’s translation work.The author also summarizes three principles applied under the guidance of communicative translation approach,including truthfulness,comprehensibleness and naturalness.In addition,the translation strategies at the lexical,syntactic and textual level are put forward according to the problems encountered in the process of translation.Agricultural terminologies and part of speech are focused at the lexical level.Conversion of voice and syntactic regroup are paid attention to at the syntactic level.Amplification and linking devices are taken into account at the textual level.Through this translation practice,the author not only improves her translation skills but also hopes to provide some references for the translation of similar texts.Meanwhile,this translation task might help learn advanced foreign experience in the field of organic agriculture and build organic farming with sound and sustainable development.
