| This is a report on the translation of Conventional and Organic Farming:A Comprehensive Review through the Lens of Agricultural Science(Shorrocks,2018).Chapter Fourteen(Composition of Organic and Conventionally Grown Crops-Health Implication),chosen as the source text of the translation project,focuses on the plant components and phytoalexin,etc.and illustrates the effects of organic and conventionally grown plant components on health.The main function of the source text is information transmission,which belongs to informative text.This translation report consists of four parts.Chapter One is task description,including background of the task,introduction to the original and significance of the task.Chapter Two is process description which includes preparation for the translation,translation theory and translation difficulties.As the key part of this report,Chapter Three is case analysis.According to Skopos Theory(Vermeer,2001),the translator adopts literal translation and free translation to deal with the difficulties in translating terminology and polysemous words in order to be faithful to the source text and transmit the information accurately.As for the difficulties at the level of syntax and textual cohesion,the translator adopts the translation techniques of combination,division,omission,addition and conversion to solve problems to make the target text clear,concise and accurate.Chapter Four is the summary of this translation practice.From this translation report,the translator has learned the knowledge of organic and conventional agriculture and has got a profound understanding of Skopos Theory.At the same time,the translator is more proficient in relevant translation methods and translation skills and hopes this practice will help explore the techniques of agricultural translation and provide useful reference for other translation learners. |
