This paper is a translation report based on the translation of Chapter one and two of An Introduction to Ecological Economics. This book describes new approaches to achieve a sustainable and desirable human presence on Earth.Written by the top experts in the field,it addresses the policies aimed at achieving our shared goals and an innovative approach to integrated environmental, social, and economic analysis and management. This paper tries to review the process of translation practice, including four parts.First of all,it gives an overview of the translation of the original text,as well as the purpose and its significance. In the second part,pre-translation preparation and quality control are introduced. Moreover, the translator summarizes the terminology in the book, based on studying more than 30 parallel texts with more than 4 impact factors on the websites of core journals. In the third part, because cohesive devices appear frequently in the source text and there is close logical relationship among them,by the guidance of systemic functional linguistics, the translator combined the theory of cohesion and coherence with the translation process. The fourth part introduces the process of revision in the later stage of translation. In the last part, the author summarizes the gains and shortcomings in the process of translating such texts.Dealing with the cohesion situations in the process of translation, the translator can not only better analyze the author’s original intention but also make the translation concise and coherent by combining theory with translation practice.Meanwhile, the translator hopes that this translation practice can provide supporting evidence and help to the development of ecological economics in China, and the terminology database and methods of discourse analysis can be helpful for other translators.
