Translation,Rewriting And Coherence

As ecological problems have become the biggest bottleneck for China’s economic and social development.It is necessary to translate,introduce and absorb the advanced concepts of foreign ecological economics,making domestic readers pay more attention to the guiding role of ecological economics in current economic development,providing inspiration for relevant departments to deal with the relationship between economic development and ecological environment.This is an English-Chinese translation practice report.The author selects Chapter 3 “Principles and Objectives of Ecological Economics” from An Introduction to Ecological Economics as the source text.It belongs to informative text,containing a large number of cohesive words.Therefore,how to deal with cohesive words to achieve the same semantic coherence with source text has a typical significance.Taking the cohesion and coherence of systemic functional linguistics as guiding theory and “Translation is Translating Meaning” as ideology are aiming at ensuring the effective transmission of the guiding principles of ecological economics and better realizing the cohesion and coherence of textual Chinese translations.This report covers the whole process of the translation practice.Through case analysis,the author recognizes that deeper understanding of source text cohesive devices is crucial when reconstructing the translation,and the lack of distinction between English and Chinese expression habitat directly impacts the translation quality.This report is mainly based on the translation practice of the author,analyzing the various cohesive devices of source text and giving some translation strategies.The deficiency is that the cohesive devices discussed in this report are so limited,and more cohesive devices need to be made further exploration.
