This paper takes the Four Records of Huolu County in Ming and Qing Dynasties as the research object, and explores its compilation overview, compilation ideas, content characteristics, values and shortcomings. In this paper, the author first introduces the compilation of the four chronicles in the Ming and Qing Dynasties in Huolu County, including editions and basic contents,in order to have a preliminary understanding of them.Secondly, the author analyzes the compilation thoughts and content characteristics of the four chronicles by three aspects: nature, role and compilation principles.Meanwhile the author summarizes the characteristics of willingness to copy, attention to reality and statements with descriptions through reading the chronicles.Thirdly, the author discusses the pros and cons of the four chronicles by comparing with other historical materials after a thorough study. This paper recognizes that besides the unique historical data value of local chronicles, the four chronicles have great reference value for the development of tourism, the extensive compilation of village and township chronicles in Luquan District. However, this paper also points out two main drawbacks: the tendency of self-restraint of the compilers of local chronicles and the inadequacy of the innovation of local chronicles.Completed during the Ming and Qing Dynasties,Huolu County Chronicle features integral structure, various genres and simple style, which reflects more mature thoughts of compiling local chronicles.Despite some deficiencies, the four chronicles are still important historical materials for understanding the political, economic and social features of Huolu County in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
