On 30th September 1965,a group lead by Lieutenant Colonel Untung Syamsuri and called themselves"Thirtieth of September Movement"started a coup attempt in Jakarta,which is also known by the acronym Gestapu(Gerakan September Tiga Puluh in Bahasa Indonesian).A Series of political events happen in reaction to the 9.30 coup in 1965.Anti-Chinese Movement,which started in October 1965 and ended by the last months of 1967,come into being across Indonesia along with all the political events.Indonesian right winger involved deeper in Anti-Chinese violence as they got intensified,especially after Suharto take over Indonesia after 11,March 1966.Chinese Indonesian was seriouly damaged during the Anti-Chinese Movement.Under the pressure of diplomatic and domestic situation,Chinese Government’s attitude towards evacuation changed quiet a bit from the start of anti-Chinese Movement to its height.But not until May 1966 did Chinese Government really start to prepare evacuation and resettlement for those Chinese who were willing to come back to China from Indonesia.At the same time,Chinese Indonesian was getting expelled in many places of Indonesia,especially in Ache.Under such circumstances,China sent Ship Guanghua to Indonesia for evacuation.4,521 Chinese Indonesian Refugees returned to China after four times of evacuations.China Overseas Chinese Commission(COCC)decided to settle those refugees in Overseas Chinese Farms.Given all the difficulties COCC were facing,they didn’t get the job done as they planned first.But with every effort Chinese Government put in,it is still a quiet successful evacuation and resettlement of Indonesian Chinese,and together they provide a positive effect for Chinese Government when they facing similar situation in the future.
