An Analysis Of "Politeness Before Interpreting" And "Theorie Du Sens" In Liaison Interpreting

Interpreting,as the medium for communication of different languages,shares a history as long as that of human beings and has made a huge contribution to exchanges among varied groups.As a common form of interpreting,liaison interpreting is widely used in many circumstances.Therefore,it is of practical significance to investigate the possible ways to enhance the quality of liaison interpreting.This paper is a report on the author’s field practice as a liaison interpreter.By analyzing the problems in the task,the author concludes the application of "Politeness before Interpreting" and "Theorie du Sens" by categorizing professional requirements for liaison interpreting into two sectors—etiquette requirements and interpreting requirements.Etiquette requirements include manner and expression.Then,the author puts forward some possible interpreting requirements as coping strategies to problems occurred during the field practice—linguistic capability,self-confidence and communication-based interpreting.Then the paper ends with the conclusion that only when interpreters making“Politeness before Interpreting" and "Theorie du Sens" their main guidelines in liaison interpreting,and equipped themselves with sufficient etiquette knowledge and advanced interpreting skills can the quality of liaison interpreting can be ensured.
